“We Are Never Alone”

Do you know the legend of the Cherokee Indian youth’s rite of passage? His dad takes him into the forest, blindfolded, and leaves him alone.

He is required to sit on a stump the whole night and not take off the blindfold until the ray of sun shines through it. He is all by himself. He cannot cry out for help to anyone. Once he survives the night he is a man. He cannot tell the other boys of this experience. Each lad must come into his own manhood.

The boy was terrified, could hear all kinds of noise. Beasts were all around him. Maybe even some human would hurt him. The wind blew the grass and earth and it shook his stump. But he sat stoically never removing the blindfold. It would be the only way he could be a man.

Finally, after a horrific night, the sun appeared and he removed his blindfold. It was then that he saw his father, sitting on the stump next to him at watch the entire night.

We are never alone. Even when we do not know it, our Father is protecting us. He is sitting on the stump beside us.

All we have to do is obey Him.  “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.  Be not dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you.  Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

GENERAL RYG NEWS

WINTER KICKOFF: Thank you to all who stayed for our Winter Kickoff last night! We had a great turnout with over 100 students and parents in attendance. I enjoyed being able to share with you some new and exciting events that we will be trying this semester to fulfill our commitment to our vision of Seek, Serve, and Go. There were many things I did not cover, so be looking for information about such events like the Miracle League and others! If you were unable to make the Winter Kickoff, please refer to the following items:

YOUTH WEBSITE: I encourage you to use the website more frequently this year as we move away towards a paperless registration system. You can register for all events online. There is also a password protected directory page where you can find a quick list of phone numbers for parents and students, as well as, forms that you might need. There's a calendar of events and a page full of family devotionals for you to use. Check it out! Use the resources available to you!
